The cultural institution, Mediamatic, challenges common preconceptions about food, waste and unusual materials. Jacob tackles these theme through ash, a by-product of Mediamatic ETEN's restaurant. Revisiting the material through various heirloom recipes, she ultimately landed on a recipe for washing liquid which calls for the extraction of lye from ash and created wASH.
wASH is an entirely natural and environmentally safe washing detergent made from ash and produced
at Mediamatic in 1L units, using only ingredients found on-site. The detergent is enhanced with
harvested lemon verbena known for its antiseptic qualities as well as bokashi juice,
a by-product from ETEN’s organic waste, rich in the role of a softener.
Customers can buy the product at the bar of Mediamatic ETEN.
